Chemical and Nuclear Systems
Chemical Weapons: Disposal, Demilitarization, and NonproliferationThe U.S. Army produced chemical weapons to deter the threat of chemical attacks from foreign forces. These obsolete weapons are now safely stored across the country while they await disposal. In addition, the U.S. Army is responsible for environmentally acceptable and safe disposition of former chemical agent production facilities and recovered chemical weapons. For years, Noblis staff have performed analyses of engineering process, costs, risk, test evaluations, logistics, acquisition, and plant safety. Our support includes evaluating alternative technologies; preparing feasibility studies; and analyzing safety, hazard, and mitigation.
Noblis' Web resources in this area can be accessed via one of three links:
- Background on Chemical Warfare provides access to reference material that explains the chemistry and toxicity of chemical warfare agents, discusses chemical weapons and countermeasures, and addresses selected issues on the impact of chemical weapons on society and how society attempts to control these weapons. Certain information is included primarily as an aid to researchers, both professional and amateur, including links to other sites of interest concerning chemical warfare.
- Noblis Capabilities in Chemical Weapons Disposal and Demilitarization and Counterproliferation describes the types of tasks we perform for our customers.
- Noblis' Work Program for Chemical Weapons Disposal and Demilitarization and Counterproliferation (including the PMCD Letter) describes our customers and how we support them.
- Laboratory Infrastructure and Sampling/Detection Systems
- Biological Surveillance for Early Warning
Nuclear Safety
We apply our considerable skills base in nuclear power technology, nuclear materials handling, toxicity, safety systems, and risk analysis to assist federal agencies in the oversight of safety management practices for nuclear systems and facilities.
