Service-Oriented Architecture

Service Description:

Noblis supports a range of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) related services, and applies SOA concepts and implementation methodologies in its research and client activities. Specific engagements with multiple components of the Department of Labor, the Department of Navy CANES program office, and in healthcare are demonstrating Noblis’ expertise in applying SOA from acquisition support to actual services implementations.

Specific Engagements:

RASMAS
A Noblis offering, RASMAS is a web-based subscription service that provides comprehensive notification, distribution, and management of product alerts and recalls for all products used in healthcare organizations.  Implemented using a Service-oriented Architecture, RASMAS software exposes two principal web services:

  1. A user service that established and maintains a common user base between the RASMAS application and the RASMAS Help Desk’s primary customer support application, SalesForce.com/, and
  2. A late beta-stage integration service that allows other systems to pull RASMAS alerts into another system and report progress on alert remediation back to RASMAS.

Implementation of a SOA within Autonomous Sensor Systems
Phase 1 research results in implementing a radiological sensor system include a Noblis Sensor SOA with mobile radiological services including services available to the outside community (Sensor Web clients, DTRA or DNDO clients) and data repositories to feed visualization tools.

US Dept of Labor/ Office of Worker’s Compensation – Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation
Provided acquisition support, specifically developed an RFP and architecture of an n-tier application to replace a client server application. SOA architecture described in detail in RFP attachment, as well as business/system use cases.

US Dept of Labor/ Unemployment Insurance (UI) - Integrated Adjudication System (IAS)
Noblis has operated a UI technology center for DOL for over 13 years.  Applications are designed for use and interoperability between US DOL and the 53 states/territories that administer UI. The IAS, developed by Noblis with US DOL and state partners, utilizes a SOA architecture to allow it to ‘speak’ to any state legacy system using Web Services and XML format.   Leveraged development such as this, across states, has saved US DOL and states millions of dollars in development costs

US Dept of Labor/ Unemployment Insurance – Separation Information Data Exchange System (SIDES)
Noblis, working with US DOL, state UI agencies, large employers and third party employer agents, has developed a RFP and SOA architecture for a national program called Separation Information Data Exchange System (SIDES). SIDES endpoints provide independent services with defined interfaces that can be called by government legacy systems and employer systems to perform their tasks in a standard way, without the service having foreknowledge of the calling application, and without the application having or needing knowledge of how the service actually performs its tasks.  SIDES exposes web services with the base level of web services standards relevant to SOA including XML,   HTTP (or HTTPS), SOAP, WSDL and Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI).
