Noblis won an environmental award in the facilitator category of SmartCEO's EcoCEO awards. This award recognizes businesses in the Greater Washington area that are embracing and implementing eco-friendly products, services, and technology. The award demonstrates Noblis' status as an innovator and catalyst for environmental change in the industry and community.
The facilitator category recognizes companies that assist others in achieving eco-friendly objectives. One way that Noblis has helped other companies become greener is by funding and developing TEAL (Total Emissions Analytics), an enterprise greenhouse gas and energy management tool that helps businesses measure the size of their carbon footprints.
Feedback from TEAL inspired Noblis to make in-house changes that have significantly reduced energy consumption, water use, and waste throughout their facilities. “The green lifestyle is part of our corporate culture,” says Amr ElSawy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Noblis, Inc. “Noblis has implemented many innovative, eco-friendly policies to become landfill-free, conserve resources, reduce costs, and improve the environment throughout our facilities and in the community."
Noblis estimates that using TEAL helped them cut their carbon emissions by 160.72 tons in the first six months of 2008. Programs and policies that led to this reduction included installing energy efficient lighting products, replacing polystyrene cafeteria supplies with compostable products, upgrading HVAC equipment filters and operating the equipment more efficiently, and managing and monitoring the grounds irrigation system. Noblis also enhanced its telecommuting program and recycled 33.9 tons of materials in the last year.
Noblis will soon open the Noblis Innovation & Collaboration Center (NICC).The NICC will consolidate 20 individual labs into a single workspace and will enable Noblis to take advantage of significant energy efficiencies associated with server virtualization and green computing upgrades.
