Dr. Karl Wunderlich, a Noblis Fellow in the Transportation Systems mission area, was an invited speaker at the
Salt Institute Annual Meeting held in Laguna Nigel, CA in March 2010. Dr. Wunderlich delivered a presentation on the systematic and quantitative assessment of the productivity of transportation systems under varying operational conditions. Since the largest volume use of salt is to free roadways of dangerous winter ice, Dr. Wunderlich's talk was relevant to the safe and efficient management of transportation operations during snow and ice emergencies.
