Ocean Systems

America is an island nation. An essential element of the overseas commerce necessary to sustain our economy is safe navigation of the vessels carrying resources into and out of American waters and ports. Since the country's early days, the Coast and Geodetic Survey has had responsibility to survey United States waters and develop navigation charts. Originally charted by Thomas Jefferson, this organization evolved into what is now the National Ocean Service (NOS) within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A significant part of Noblis’ Ocean Atmospheric and Space Systems Division support many facets of NOAA’s mission. Noblis assists the NOS and NOAA Research in finding and evaluating effective ways to carry out their responsibilities.
