Functional Planning & Space Programming
At Noblis, we view functional planning and space programming as a critical link between strategic and service-line business planning and operations improvement, financial planning and space programming. Functional planning and space programming links service-line business planning with an understanding of care-delivery models, facility implications and space requirements for each department and service-line. It forms the basis for project design and implementation by an architect and builder team.Noblis advisors will assist you with your functional planning and space programming effort by convening user groups of care providers, physicians, leadership, directors, other stakeholders and support personnel. The purpose of these user group meetings is to identify, clarify and discuss priorities, processes, space allocation needs, and customer support issues and concerns.
Based upon this iterative process Noblis will work with you to develop a detailed functional planning and space programming document that includes:
- Scope of services to be provided in the new or renovated space
- Anticipated volumes of service
- Anticipated hours of operation
- Capacity requirements (e.g., number of beds, procedure rooms)
- Anticipated staffing levels
- Desired adjacencies to other departments or services
- Desired workflow within the suite (layout)
- Special design requirements (atypical demands on structure, mechanical and electrical systems, IT infrastructure)
- Space requirements by zone of activity (by room or function)
